The Orange Democratic Movement has announced that it will hold country-wide rallies to protest against what it calls government's refusal to respect the wishes of the majority and failing to honour the mediation talks that are being led by Kofi Annan.

Speaking at the party's headquarters at the Pentagon House, party Secretary General Prof. Peter Anyang Nyongo called on ODM supporters to prepare for mass action that will begin next week.

The party accused President Kibaki of derailing the gains made so far in the talks.

They took issues with the remarks made by Kibaki that he will not accept a power-sharing deal with ODM's Raila Odinga.

Kibaki announced that he will accept anything negotiated outside the existing constitutional framework. His remarks dealt a blow to Raila Odinga who has announced that his party was willing to enter into an equal power-sharing with Kibaki on condition that he takes the position of an executive prime minister.

Panic and fear griped most parts of Nairobi as conflicts were reported in various slums within the city.
