Information Campaign 2007
This year is particularly important for Kenyan voters to exercise their fundamental democratic right to choose leaders in the upcoming Elections expected by the end of December.
As Kenya continues to grow democratically, it is key that both aspirants and those already in leadership conduct issues-oriented electoral campaign. In this way Kenyans can make informed choices about their leaders.
Media Focus on Africa Foundation (MFAF) with the support of the UNDP Election Assistance Programme and development patners is running a harmonised media campaign focused on this year's general elections. This campaign seeks to promote objective, unbiased and impartial media coverage and support the objective of achieving free and fair elections and increase voter turnout.
As part of the media campaign, MFAF is sponsoring close to 400 voter education radio programmes on 10 radio stations and 30 programmes on 3 national television stations.
The media campaign is focused on key electoral thematic areas of good governance, at the forefront are the following:
• Political leadership and Accountability
• Corruption and mismanagement of public funds
• Ethnicity, incitement and hate speech
• The role of the Youth in politics
• Poverty, inequality and unemployment
• Women in electoral politics
• Enacting a new constitution
• Peace, Insecurity and Human Rights
